blizzard, baby!

February has certainly blown in with fanfare this year!  Unless you live under a rock, I'm sure you've read/seen/heard about the blizzard of 2011, aka the snowpacolypse!

We didn't get too "riled up" about the forecast of 12-16" of snow, because typically the forecast is for a lot more than we actually get - but it was fun to anticipate a probable snow day!  The kids at school were so excited when it started snowing and blowing on Tuesday afternoon (we even scored an early dismissal).  It was quite nice to be notified early on Tuesday evening that we would not be having school on Wednesday.  Snow days are even better when you don't have to set the alarm!

Stocked up on milk and TP, we settled in on Tuesday night, peeking outside occasionally to check the storm's progress.  The swirling/blowing snow really did make it feel like a blizzard.

Before going to bed, I snapped this shot of the snow already drifting around the car in the driveway.  I love when snow looks like whipped cream!

We woke up to a winter wonderland today.  Billy didn't make it in to work - our street was not even plowed until afternoon!  So we all happily spent the day in our jammies, reading, watching movies, and staying cozy.  When B woke up from his nap, we all piled on our winter gear and headed outside to check out the snow.

Though our driveway had been bladed, Billy scooped out some snow around the car and on our porch.  Of course daddy's little helper had to get in on the scooping too!

We also broke out the sled which Braden loved.  We don't live near any hills, but he had a great time being pulled up and down our street.

Instead of heading inside to warm up, we jumped in the car and blasted the heat as we drove around town checking things out.  It has been a long time since we've seen this much snow from one storm. . . . there are some big piles of snow!

We ended up at the coffee shop and enjoyed hot chocolate with a friend.  (This is the snow pile outside the coffee shop.)

Though the streets in town are mostly clear (well, except for those big snow piles), we got the call that school is cancelled tomorrow too (not surprising, as our district is quite rural and the country roads can't be good).  So - snow day #2 awaits tomorrow!

Oh.  PS - this picture is from day 31(almost forgot about it).  B & B were stirring up a cake for dessert . . .  Braden loves to "help" in the kitchen - especially when licking good stuff from a bowl or beater is involved. ;)
