With time a ticking (2 days left of Herky on Parade) we made our list and set out on Saturday to check 'em off.
One challenge of the Herky Hunt was that several of the Herkys got moved around for various reasons (repairs, change of location to honor a mayor that died, display at the state fair, etc. etc.). I sat down with the computer and did some checking to be SURE I knew where we could find our remaining Herkys. I was a little miffed to find that some were in places we'd already been, but were inside . . so we found the OUTSIDE Herky, but didn't realize there was another one INSIDE. Ugh - that meant a lot of going BACK to several locations we'd been at. Oh well - they don't call it Herky "hunting" for nothing, right!?
Luckily one Herky that we needed was actually moved closer to us! This Herky was at IMS for the Courage Ride since it honors Sarcoma cancer victims and the Courage Ride is in honor of Seth Bailey, who died of Sarcoma. So we started out locally at IMS . . .
Next we hit a downtown Herky that I know we saw before, but must not have photographed . . .
And found this one downtown too!
After that we hit up Granite Herky at the College of Public Health . . . "Found it!!" says Braden
Elise loved climbing around :)
Since we had to go back to Coralville to get the Herky INSIDE the library, we tried to take another pic at Father Daughter Herky with Billy and Elise (since Billy wasn't with us the first time around), but Elise didn't like the idea of mimicking the pose! ;)
Here is Uncle Herky - the one we missed inside.
Daredevil Herky at Brown Deer Golf Course
. . . and this Herky is at Oakdale Research
Sgt. Herky is one that was moved on us - found him INSIDE the North Liberty Community Center (and we were right outside for another one earlier - grrr!)
Recycled Herky in North Liberty (the kids and I drove past him the night before but missed him because it was too dark!)
At this point, we were trying to decide if we should power through and do the last 4, or finish up after church on Sunday. We sort of liked the idea of finishing with the Golden Herky last (which did not make sense if we were to continue hunting on Saturday, but would make sense if we continued our route from church.) So we called it a day and got some DQ. Elise was pleased with this decision and took a snooze on the way home . . .
