As is our tradition, we headed off for a week of vacation at Big Rock Resort in Walker, MN with the Hartsocks the first week in August. We often stop and spend the night with friends on our way up in Minneapolis to break up the trip. This year we changed things up a bit and stayed with different friends in Rochester. After several hours of traveling, the kids were excited to play on this cool playground and run off some energy . . .
. . . followed by supper at Chuck E Cheese! This was our first time taking the kids, and we all had a great time. They loved the games, and the pizza was actually pretty tasty too! ;)
Elise reaaaalllly wanted to climb up in the tube, but adults couldn't accompany small kiddos - so big bro Braden was trying his best to help her. She eventually got scared and came down.
Saturday morning we made the rest of the lonnnng trip North to Walker. The kids were so excited to arrive and begin a week of FUN . . . boating, tubing, swimming, sleeping in, and staying up late, playing with cousins, and just hanging out . . . These pictures aren't in any particular order - they came from several different cameras, and I didn't bother sorting them. But here's a look at our week . . .
Lots of meals cooked on the grill . . .
Feeding the friendly ducks
Campfire time!
Braden roasting his very first "solo" marshmallow . . .
. . . it was a little "well done" but tasted good in a s'more!
So peaceful . . .
Little Miss was always stealing a sip of Mommy's drink ;)
Braden LOVED the new bow and arrow Aunt Amy got him in town, and was kept busy hunting.
As always, the play equipment was big hit too!
Elise grazing before supper . . .
Braden was reunited with friend he'd met last year. The boys had a blast playing together.
Elise also made a friend (Braden's buddy's little sister) . . .
Cousins! (Also in the background you can see our new minivan! Yep, we joined the minivan club when our Altima conked out on us the week before the trip. We ended up getting a van, and decided that we'd enjoy the extra space on a long trip and took it to MN. I have to admit the space in a van is nice!)
Friends!
The pool was (of course) very popular. And this year we had GREAT weather and it was nice and warm for swimming. The water felt really good - some years we freeze in the pool.
Shark attack!
Braden and his buddy
And . . . sleepy girl on the way home!
We even crossed a Herky off our list! We stopped at the Cedar Rapids airport to photograph this on our way home (even though Billy was greatly irritated with me for doing so) ;)
