swimming lessons

After talking about signing Braden up for swimming lessons for several years, we finally did it!  Initially I was reluctant to sign him up for lessons at the local pool because I'd heard you have to start at level one, and you could't even do level one until you were 4 - NO exceptions.  The problem with that policy is that level one lessons basically involve learning to put your head under water and doggy paddling, both of which B has mastered since he was two.  But when private lessons fell through this year, I went ahead and checked with our pool.  I was glad I did, because they let him begin at level 2 (which was still pretty easy for him), but was a good place to start.  He learned how to do some actual strokes (his default method of swimming is just the underwater swim) and received some diving instruction (he has a ways to go with this - can't quite get it).  BUT he LOVED lessons, for which I am so grateful.  I think we'll actually try level three in July.

B's class started with 4 students, but since 2 were quite a bit older, they moved them to another time slot so that after the first day, he was in a "class" with only one other student (there was a level one class going on at the same time - both levels played a game together at the end of the lesson every day).

Not a dive - but having fun on the board!  I'm glad he's confident enough to swim to the side independently now so that I don't have to get in and spot him whenever he wants to use the diving board. :)

High five from his teacher, Sofia, on the last day!
