what's cookin in the kitchen?

No, this post does not feature a new recipe.  It's an update on the status of our kitchen.

You may remember from this post that we had an unfortunate incident involving an exploding pyrex dish several weeks ago.  The hot glass melted holes in our countertop and flooring.

Here's a picture of our kitchen "before" - with the light colored flooring and countertops, as well as the funky curvy line separating the carpet and linoleum:

This shot shows the updates "in progress."  The new countertop was installed last week on Monday . . .

. . . and the flooring was put in on Tuesday!  It's amazing what a difference a couple of changes can make in the look of a room.

This "wider" shot shows that we extended the new flooring to the dining area, so no more scrubbing  carpet under B's high chair!

So I guess all's well that ends well - we did get a nicely updated kitchen out of the pyrex fiasco.

But - there was one snafu . . . can you spot in in the photo below?
Project 365: 172

It's kinda hard to see in a picture, but where the carpet meets the new flooring, something is amiss.  Yep, the new flooring was laid crooked.  It is "off" by about an inch (the carpet line is straight - near one wall the grout line is about a half inch from the carpet, and on the opposite side of the room it is about an inch and a half from the carpet.  To some, it may not be obvious.  To a Type A/must be straight person like me - it drives me bonkers.

Sigh.

Fortunately, the flooring company agreed that it "looks like crap" and agreed to redo the floor at no charge.  (The poor schmucks who laid the flooring will pick up the tab. I almost feel badly for them - but duh!)

Unfortunately, that means they have to re-order the flooring (which takes about 10 business days) and we have to move appliances and go through the mess again.  Bonus!

I'm with you! I noticed it right away. It would drive me crazy to have it in my house. Like the new kitchen though.
