Yesterday afternoon when Elise woke up from her nap (still wearing her church clothes), we headed outside for a little photo shoot. I was hoping to get some shots of her sitting on the back steps, or posing by the landscaping . . . but of course she had other ideas - so we just went with it.
At 18 months, Elise:
• loves to play outside. She will often go get her shoes and bring them to us to put on and then pound on the door to go out.
• is our explorer. Speaking of going outside . . . if no one is willing to take her, she'll just go out if she can figure out a way! And I hate to admit that she HAS gotten out of the house not once, but twice without supervision. YIKES! Thankfully, both times we discovered that she was "missing" quickly and found her safely playing on the front steps and in the garage. We are trying to be extra vigilant in making sure the child safety locks on the doors are always engaged. This child is definitely going to give us a run for our money . . . or a heart attack.
• has no fear. I think I've mentioned this before - but it is SO true. Here she is on the big kid slide that she has decided that she is old enough to go on by herself!
(she also decided that she wanted to try the big kid swing, but did let me help her on it)
• is full of giggles! Elise has the BEST laugh, and once she gets the giggles, she laughs and laughs. Braden is very good at getting her to giggle, and tickles and peek a boo will always get you a giggle too!
• still has her curls! In fact, with recent humid weather, they are curly as ever! Can't wait to see if the rest of her hair (like on top) will be curly when it gets longer. Her hair is also looking really blonde these days. . . wonder if it will darken up once we aren't out in the sun as much?
• is generally easy going and will roll with our schedule (like going out in the evening, etc.), but is also starting to let us know her opinion on things. For example, don't mess with her meal time - when she is ready to eat, she is READY.
• is picking up a few more words . . . and will repeat some of what we say (single words), which Braden thinks is the coolest.
• still adores her big brother (he's the first person she goes looking for when she wakes up in the morning), but is also beginning to get frustrated with him sometimes, like when he tries to take a toy she is playing with. She has "taken him down" with an around the legs tackle a time or two already!
• is wearing a few 12 mth clothes depending on style/brand, but is mostly on to 18 mth apparel. Her feet have recently grown, as we are squeezing her little toes into her size 4 summer shoes (just a few more weeks!), but she's ready for size 5. Still wearing size 3 diapers, though.
• is not a fan of bedtime lately. Generally once in bed, E goes down pretty quickly (especially for naps) . . . but does not like to go to bed at night - especially if she knows Braden is still up. She doesn't really like to be rocked, so our best bet is to put her in her crib and just shut the door. (Sometimes we give in and give her a bottle if she's really mad/upset, which usually works.) Once asleep, she rarely wakes up and sleeps till I wake her at 7:15ish on school days, or until around 8 on weekends.
• usually takes just one long afternoon nap. By lunchtime she's usually pretty tired and is ready to lay down right after she eats, and will sleep for at least a couple of hours, if not more.
• continues to be busy busy busy and is not in one place for long. She loves to get into things she's not supposed to, and can empty a drawer in the blink of an eye. One of her favorite places to "get into" is Braden's room.

Aww, baby girl! (Can I still call you that?) We love you so much and can't imagine our family without your bright smile.
