busy baby

Braden is a busy, busy baby lately . . . in the last week or so he has become much more interested in playing with his toys.  It is so fun to watch his finer motor skills (and his personality/preferences) develop. Right now he loves these links (probably partially because he can chew on them)!

I love his looks of complete concentration when playing.

We borrowed an exersaucer from some friends about a month ago, but until tonight, Braden didn't really like it. Tonight we tried it again, and it was a hit!  He played and played and was thrilled that he could "stand." (And mommy was thrilled to be able to do the dishes and fold laundry without interruption - other than stopping to take pictures!)

Whew - being that busy wears a fella out!

We're still working on "solids" (rice cereal) - we have been gone a lot in the evenings (and bottles are soooo much easier!), so poor Braden hasn't gotten too much practice eating yet . . .  but he sure loves his chair.


But we've been working on it . . . still not so sure about this stuff.  He is still more interested in chewing on his bib . . .

Another favorite - pulling up/"standing!"

After our last check up, we are working on putting Braden to bed when he is awake, so that he learns to fall asleep on his own (per doctor's advice) . . . we used to do that some of the time, but often let him fall asleep in our arms, and also rocked him occasionally.  

It's been going pretty well, but our smart little fella has figured out our plan.  After bathtime or a bedtime story and a diaper change, he cries as soon as he figures out that he's headed for the crib and is going to be left alone/away from the action.  Luckily it doesn't last long - but it is funny when he is sooooo sleepy, but just has to cry (like he wants to get in the last word).  When we go in to check on him/soothe him (we give him a pat/talk to him/give him his pacifier - but don't pick him up) - we often find him in his sleeping position (arms above his head), eyes closed, but still letting out a cry or two.  Finally he gives in to sleep and is out like a light.  

Can hardly believe he'll be 5 months old tomorrow!  (sigh).
