• is our little mover/shaker! We often call her "Nosy Nellie" because her favorite past time is emptying drawers, opening cupboards, and getting into bins (we have her lotions, combs, etc., diapers, bibs, and burp clothes (which I could probably put away - but we still use them for runny noses) in bins in her room and she loves to dump them. The pantry is her number one place to make a mess. . .You've got to keep an eye on this little lady every second, or she'll be into something . . . and she can get there fast.

• is pretty much exclusively walking these days, and the other night Braden excitedly observed that "she's kind of running, Mom!" Yikes!

• can bend down and pick things up (from a standing position) without toppling over. Love that little baby squat . . .
• enjoys playing with toys, and can occupy herself quite nicely. She mostly prefers pulling toys out of the bins/baskets vs. actually playing with them. . . but does like to play if someone else is playing too. Favs right now are balls (especially if someone is willing to roll it back and forth with her), cars, and anything that can be used to make noise by banging it on the wood floor.
• loves eating "real" food, and has pretty much ditched baby food . . . though she still only has 2 teeth, she can "chew" just about anything, and so far enjoys most things. She loves meatloaf/meatballs, potatoes, mac and cheese, all fruits (except bananas - weird!), cheese, crackers, and anything sweet. Veggies are hit and miss - sometimes she'll gobble them up, and other times they come right back out. She's also getting really good at feeding herself (sans silverware), which is helpful.
• still loves her bottle. We had no trouble switching Braden from a bottle to a sippy cup, but I have a hunch Elise is not going to let the bottle go as easily (and that's ok with me - we had B using cups exclusively by age one, but this time I am not so anxious to bid bottles farewell). She's tried sippys and loves to grab them out of the cabinet and carry them around/chew on the spout, but prefers her bottle. She's also still taking a bottle at bedtime - that one is going to be the hardest to ditch
• wears size 12 month clothing . . . still has a few 9 mth things that work/I just haven't taken out of her closet, but for the most part is into 12 mth. Still in size 2 diapers and shoes . . . in these pics she's sporting a new 12 mth size outfit that she got for her birthday

• is crazy about water. I accidentally filled the tub quite a bit fuller than usual one night this week, and Elise LOVED it. She still comes running anytime she hears the water running, and often we find ourselves with a "guest" when showering - she just crawls right in - fully clothed - if you forget to close the door. Last week Billy was in the bathroom running the water for her tubby, and as I wiped her hands and face from supper in the kitchen, I said to her, "Ready for a bath?" When I set her down she took off walking toward the bathroom saying, "Baaa. Baaa" (There wasn't quite a "th" at the end, but I am pretty confident that she was saying "bath.") I am so excited to see what she thinks of the pool this summer - she's going to be in heaven!
• "babbles" a lot - especially in the car. We still hear a lot of bob bob bob/bab bab bab, with a few Mamamamas in there. And just this week she's started to say "this" . . . it's definitely not that clear - more like "dis" or "di," but she says it as she holds something out/hands an object to you

• prefers to go barefoot - Elise will pull off her socks in about 10 seconds if she's not wearing shoes. She occasionally gets her shoes off, but we've found a pair that stays on pretty well/is a challenge for her to get off by herself
• has been (knock on wood!) drumroll, please . . . sleeping in her crib all night! Can I get an A - MEN? Sometime in the past month, Elise has been falling asleep (with her beloved bottle - but don't worry - she doesn't leave it in her mouth once she's sleeping - it usually sort of falls out) in her crib (sometimes she cries for just a minute or so) and has been sleeping for longer stretches and even (insert crossed fingers and a little prayer) all. night. long!!! a few times. (I know that it is not proper to use more than one exclamation mark, but trust me - this sentiment is worthy of extra excited punctuation.) If she wakes, it's typically around 4 or 5, and she can usually self soothe herself and go back to sleep - sometimes we have to grab a binkie or another bottle though. BUT, this is such a huge step forward, people. We are so very very happy with this new development (and much more well rested). :)
• is loads of FUN . . . Elise is full of spunk and I just LOVE her giggle and sweet smile. She is still pretty happy to "go" to anyone, but reserves snuggles for those she knows best. (Snuggles are short though, and she is off and running unless it's bedtime).

• has some hair, but not a lot . . . she has a few longer pieces in the back behind her ears that get a little crazy sometimes and stick out. Wonder if she'll have curls?
(ps - can you see the greenish bruise above her left eye? She had a run in with the stone hearth on Friday, and the hearth won.)
The kids have been having a good old time with the helium filled balloons from Elise's party . . .

. . . apparently someone got a little wild (ahem, Braden!), because check out where one of them ended up. We'll see how many days it takes till it floats down. :)
And finally, today we went in for Elise's 12 mth well check. Her stats are:
Weight - 20.6 pounds (45th percentile)
Length - 30.5 inches (90th percentile)
Head circum. - 46 cm (75th percentile)
For some strange reason, our kiddos are both on the "tall" side (at least thus far).
Braden at 12 mths was:
Weight - 20.5 pounds (20th percentile)
Length - 31.5 inches (93rd percentile)
Very similar!
