Baseball and Backyard fun

Why do weekends always seem to fly by? Even the "long" ones are over before you know it! We packed in all kinds of fun as we bid the summer season farewell this Labor Day weekend.

We kicked things off by heading to the CR Kernals last regular season home game with Aunt Holly & Uncle Josh and Uncle Jason on Friday night. It was a beautiful evening at the ballpark, but a little crisp - fall is definitely approaching! (It was kinda fun to break out the hoodies and jeans for the evening - poor B has "back to school" stiff/too long jeans . . . the 18mth jeans are too short, but 24 mth are too long . . .)

B did great at this baseball game - there were lots of empty seats in our row so he had room to wiggle around, and he loved ballpark food - especially the ice cream!

Getting sleepy and snuggly . . .

On Saturday we all slept in (wayyyyy in - so wonderful!), but did get up in time to cheer on the Hawkeyes to a win in their season opener. It was another beautiful day, so we decided to cross a project off our "to do" list: build a firepit in the backyard. Billy and I borrowed Grandpa Jim's big red truck to get pavers while B hung out with G&G H, then we came home and "built" the pit.

Little helper!

Gathering sticks for the first fire (Braden loves to look for sticks to throw in the pit - which actually IS helpful).

Today we "celebrated" Labor Day with a backyard picnic (we had planned to go to a park for lunch, but the weather didn't cooperate, so plan B was grilling supper in our backyard).

"Let me help with that bun, Grandpa."

After supper we broke out the bags game - Grandpa and Grandma had a little trouble hitting the target . . .
. . . due to this little obstacle. He thought it was so funny to sit on the hole.

We also lit a fire (though it was HOT and not yet dark), but sadly everyone was too full for s'mores - so we'll need to have another fire again soon. I love summer, but must admit a cool fall evening around the fire in a hoodie is quite nice too.
