B: Mom, is Elise another Jesus?
Me: (very confused) What? No, she is not Jesus.
B: Is she like Jesus? Like Baby Jesus?
Me: Oh. Yes, she is a baby, like Jesus was when he was born.
B: Yeah, Mom. She's like Baby Jesus.
B: Mom, is there a baby in your tummy?
Me: No, Elise used to be in my tummy, but when she was born she came out.
B: So it's all empty in there now?
Me: Yes, it's all empty.
B (thinking . . .): Is there a baby in 'Chelle's tummy? (our daycare provider who recently had a baby)
Me: No, there was a baby in her tummy but when Keilyn was born, she came out of 'Chelle's tummy just like Elise came out of Mommy's tummy.
Me: Braden, do you know anyone with a baby in their tummy?
B: Yeah, Mom. Carleen DOES have a baby in her tummy. (Our substitute daycare provider while Michelle is on maternity leave, happens to be about 35 weeks pregnant). She DOES, Mom.
Me: Yes, Carleen does.
We're having B evaluated for some speech concerns, and the speech pathologist has been visiting our house to perform said evaluations with him. (He talks a ton to us now, but in the past had a delayed vocab and still has difficulty having conversations/answering questions with unfamiliar adults. As an educator, I am concerned with how this might impact his classroom experiences, so we're having it checked out.) One of the activities during last week's session involved the pathologist asking B what he would say in certain situations:
Speech Pathologist: Braden, tell me what you would say to Mommy if you were tired.
B: [no response]
SP: How about this one. Tell me what you would say to Mommy if your tummy hurt.
B: [no response]
SP: Ok, tell me what you would say to Mommy if you wanted some candy.
B: "Pleeeeeeeeease?"
SP: Alright - that works.
Tonite, as I was dusting/cleaning . . .
B: Mom, I am proud of you.
Me: You are? Why?
B: You are doing a good job cleaning up.
