(or until the heavens open and a downpour occurs!)
We were the lucky recipients of tickets to the Iowa Hawkeye football season opener at Kinnick on Saturday! (I know, some of you may not feel that "lucky" is a good adjective concerning Saturday's game.) We've gone for weeks without any real rainfall around here, but wouldn't you know it - the forecast for game day was for rain!
Billy and pals, armed with rain gear
Hula Herky!
By kickoff, loyal pocho-clad Hawkeye fans had filled the stadium
The rain really wasn't bad during the first quarter (steady, but one could keep dry and enjoy the game with rain gear) . . . and in the second quarter the sun came out and it was perfect footwall weather!
But alas, the rain returned near the end of the third quarter (suddenly and without warning the heavens opened!) . . . this round of rain came in sheets and seemed to be falling sideways - so everyone got soaked and it was difficult to even see the field. Eventually a "30 minute" rain delay was called, and the stadium was evacuated. We debated about sticking around (many people had left by this point, but a surprising number of Hawkeye fans remained), but since we were unsure how long the delay would really last (and we were cold and WET), we decided to call it a day. Billy and I were able to trek to the car, hit up a drive thru for a late lunch, and make it home by the time play resumed. We enjoyed watching the final quarter of the game from the comfort of our warm and dry family room.
